The 1964 Summer Olympics, officially known as the Games of the XVIII Olympiad, was held in Tokyo, Japan in 1964. 93 countries. 5140 athletes (683 women). 19 sports. 163 events. These games were also the first to be telecast internationally. Yoshinori Sakai, who lit the Olympic Flame, was born in Hiroshima on August 6, 1945, the day an atomic bomb was dropped on that city.

George Orson Welles (May 6, 1915 – October 10, 1985), best known as Orson Welles, was an American filmmaker, actor, theatre director,screenwriter, and producer, who worked extensively in film, theatre, television and radio. Welles first found national and international fame as the director and narrator of a 1938 radio adaptation of H. G. Wells’s novel The War of the Worlds performed for the radio drama anthology series Mercury Theatre on the Air. Citizen Kane (1941), his first film with RKO, in which he starred in the iconic role of Charles Foster Kane, is often considered the greatest film ever made. Several of his other films, including The Magnificent Ambersons (1942), Touch of Evil (1958), Chimes at Midnight (1965), and F for Fake (1974), are also widely considered to be masterpieces.

The Icsid World Design Congress 2009 will be held from 23 to 25 November at Suntec International Convention and Exhibition Centre in Singapore. Themed “Design Difference – Designing Our World 2050″, this year?s Congress will directly address today?s global challenges in an attempt to deliver powerful propositions that will shape the world of 2050. We expect professional associations, societies, institutions, government bodies, and corporations from around the world, coming to partake and contribute.

To reach and embrace the future, we will go beyond the conventional congress approach by engaging keynote speakers, design leaders and delegates to interact and collaborate before, during and after the event. For the very first time, we will feature inter-active and participative mini-symposia ? “Design2050 Studios?, led by world-renowned creative experts including Chris Bangle of Chris Bangle Associates, and Stefano Marzano of Philips Design. In the months leading to the Congress, each design leader will head up a team of four to six individuals from multi-discipline backgrounds to create a Design2050 proposition, by imagining, conceptualising and visualising a desired future. The propositions will be presented and discussed during the Congress.

The three-day event will feature presentations by design leaders in the morning sessions. In the afternoon, each Design2050 Studio will present their concepts, followed by panel discussions where you will get an opportunity to discuss and refine the scenarios and transform them into practical realities.

scratchdisk was recently on location for a full day shoot with the crew from DNA Studios and client NGC Systems. The shoot is for a 5-minute product presentation for NGC and HP (Hewlett Packard) slated to complete by end May.
